HSH Nordbank receives healthcare industry award

European Healthcare Deal of the Year for NRoCK

Hamburg/Kiel, February 12, 2009 - Project Finance Magazine will present HSH Nordbank with an award today.

HSH Nordbank’s Corporate Clients Business Unit will be presented with the European Healthcare Deal of the Year 2008 award at a Gala Dinner at the London Brewery. The award is being given for the innovative financing of the North European Radiooncological Center Kiel (NRoCK).

With an investment volume of around EUR 258 million, NRoCK is the largest public-private partnership project in the German healthcare industry so far. The investment costs are being refinanced via an international banking syndicate led by HSH Nordbank. “The award is more for us than just the pure appreciation of our commitment with respect to financing NRoCK. It underlines HSH Nordbank’s expertise in the healthcare sector. NRoCK is already regarded today as a perfect example of successful cooperation between the public sector, a private project partner and a provider of finance. This is a huge incentive for future challenges“, says Markus Rosenbaum, Head of Healthcare at HSH Nordbank.

As a center of competence for tumors, NRoCK will open up new opportunities for treating cancer from 2012. The project partners are the University Medical Center Schleswig-Holstein and a syndicate made up of Siemens AG, Bilfinger Berger AG and HSG Technischer Service GmbH. The project agreement comprises the planning, building, financing as well as technical operation and maintenance of the particle therapy facility over a period of 25 years (length of lease from hand-over of property).
